Most migrants who went missing were crossing the Central Mediterranean

Since 2014, at least 22,942 people have lost their lives during unsafe
migration
journeys across
the Mediterranean,
according to data collected by the Missing Migrants Project. These charts show how many
people have disappeared — or died due to transportation accidents, shipwrecks, violent
attacks,
or medical complications during their journeys — along the six most dangerous migratory routes each
year.
